Who thought detention would change my life?

Today I accepted myself. I have let go of trying to please everyone and I am done caring about what people think of me. All I am going to do is just be ME, and I have never been happier! No more pressure, no more stress. Thank you detention. Thank you Breakfast Club!

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

No doubt about it, this is my all time favourite show! In many was I can relate to Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj. Of course in the biggest way, that we are all “nerds”. I love when they talk about physics, and science, and make it more fun than it already is. The best thing is, is that this show is slightly but surely changing the way people look at nerds. People seem to think all “dorks” do is sit around and do math or talk about science or argue about which superhero is the best. But although things like this do happen, in real life and the TV show, this show also shows the other side to “nerds”. It shows that “nerds” are not just boring, comic book obsessed people who’s world revolves around academics and fictional worlds. This show, shows that we “nerds” also enjoy socializing, and laughing, and that we too experience emotion. This show of lovable ”nerds” is exactly what I needed to help me feel a bit more comfortable about myself. I hope this show never ends.

I am no stranger to feeling uncertain. Not knowing what to do or what to say. It’s like being on a foggy road not knowing where to go, or what’s going happen next. When I first got to detention that’s how I felt. I didn’t know how to act and I was scared of what the others would think of me. I tried to get them to like me. I tried to say what I thought they wanted to hear. I tried cracking jokes, I even told a few white lies. I’m not the best at lying though and they back fired and they knew I was lying. Wasn’t my finest moment, I guess the fog just got to thick.

Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.

Ernest Hemingway

This could not be more true. Don’t get me wrong being smart is great, but the pressure and stress that comes with it is not! Having to work so hard to maintain you’re grades, fearing the disappointment it will cause if you don’t. Being call a nerd doesn’t help either. People seem to think they know who you are from how you dress or what you do, so you work hard to change that too. It all gets too much, too overwhelming. Sometimes for me happiness is hard to find.

Under pressure. TELL ME ABOUT IT! This song expresses exactly what I’m feeling. You don’t know how hard it is to keep up my grades, trying not to disappoint anyone.  People think that being a “nerd” means you’re life is easy, that we don’t feel pressure, but we do! I sure know I do. “Pressure pushing down on me, Pressing down on you no man ask for, Under pressure that burns a building down” I know exactly what that’s like. There is no other song I can relate to more, and that is why this song is my favourite.

My favourite book of all time! Who doesn’t love a great classic? This is the best book I know to escape into. When the pressure from the world is too much, I pick up this book and enter the incredible and exciting world of The Great Gatsby. I love getting lost in his adventures. I’ve always loved mysteries, and the unknown of Jay Gatsby always keep me wanting more, no matter how many time I read it.  F Scott Fitzgerald writing is incredible. This book is by far his best work.
